How to choose the right docking station
Docking station is an external device specially designed for notebook computers. By duplicating or even extending the ports of a notebook computer, it is possible to make a convenient one-stop connection between a notebook computer and multiple accessories or external devices.

Dock interface type:
Type-C interface:
This is the latest type of USB interface. The biggest advantage is that it is small in size, does not need to distinguish the front side, and the transmission speed is fast. It is the first choice for many thin and light notebook computers and almost all mobile phone interfaces. Other high-end monitors directly support the Type-C interface. signal input.
HDMI, VGA, DP, DVI interface:
VGA:
At present, most of them are used by old notebooks and projectors, which can only achieve 1080p resolution at most
DP interface:
At present, it is widely used in various graphics cards and monitors, and supports 4K 120Hz video, and even 8K 60Hz video;
The latest DP protocol can even satisfy us to use USB3.1 to transmit data while transmitting 4K high-definition video;
In addition, the DP interface also has advantages in multi-screen splicing, such as daisy chain connection. (But currently there are not many expansion docks with DP interface)
HDMI interface:
Currently the most mainstream video and audio transmission interface, the latest standard can support 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz, video transmission. In practice, there are three types of standard HDMI interface, mini HDMI interface and Micro HDMI interface. The standard interface shown in the figure is still common.
USB3.0 interface:
In fact, in essence, USB3.0 is a communication protocol. The specific form can be our traditional interface can be type-a, type-b, or type-c. USB3.0 interface, the transmission speed can basically reach 5Gbps (about 420M/sec). But in actual use, we default to the traditional "USB" interface. For example, our common small fans, printers, mouse keyboards, etc.
SD, TF card reader interface:
SD card is a relatively large card, mainly used in digital cameras and video cameras
TF card is usually the kind of memory card in our mobile phone, which is relatively small in size and relatively large in capacity.
Network card interface:
This is easier to understand. It is to connect an external network cable to the notebook. The main difference is the transmission speed of the network port: 100M and 1000M. The selection can be considered in conjunction with the bandwidth of the network itself.

How to choose a suitable expansion dock
[Multiple] This refers to the large number of interfaces, and the rich interface types can meet different scenarios. Take myself as an example, the notebook is routinely connected to the mouse, keyboard and monitor, sometimes it is also connected to the projector and TV, etc., and the memory card of the camera needs to be connected, so the number and types of notebook interfaces are not enough for me . But more must be based on demand, don't blindly ask for more~
[Fast] The expansion dock is the medium for communication between notebooks and other external devices. Any place that involves information transmission needs to consider the speed of information transmission. This is the fast that is emphasized here. Such as SD card, USB card transmission speed, external TV watching dramas. The transmission speed of HDMI interface, VGA interface and Gigabit Ethernet port is also very important.
[Light] After all, the expansion dock is an extra device. If it is too large or heavy, it is not very convenient to carry around, and it is not beautiful. It was originally a thin and light notebook, but the expansion dock is thicker than a notebook. Those who don’t know it think it is. A power bank. At present, there are two types of direct plug-in and line plug-in, the former is more convenient to store.
[Stable] This stability is also easy to understand. On the one hand, it refers to the stable operation during the transmission process, such as the delay after connecting the mouse and keyboard. On the other hand, it is not easy to break.
[Scattering] This is mainly due to heat dissipation. On the one hand, heat dissipation will affect the speed of data transmission, and sometimes it will be scary. Generally bigger is better.
