Thunderbolt™ Share Hardware and Software Requirements
1. Hardware Requirements:
At least one Thunderbolt™ Share licensed PC or Thunderbolt™ expansion device is required.
Two PCs equipped with Thunderbolt™ 4 or Thunderbolt™ 5 interfaces, these PCs should be based on the 11th generation or newer Core processor platform and use the Windows 10/11 operating system.
A Thunderbolt™ 4 or Thunderbolt™ 5 certified data cable.
(Optional) External accessory devices such as Thunderbolt™ docking station or Thunderbolt™ display to bridge the two PCs.
2. Software requirements:
The Thunderbolt™ Share software needs to be installed on both PCs. The software can be obtained from the Thunderbolt™ official website or authorized computer/accessory manufacturers.
Thunderbolt™ Share connection form and performance
Thunderbolt™ Share has flexible connection forms, including:
1. Two PCs are directly connected via a Thunderbolt™ data cable.
2. Two PCs are bridged via the Thunderbolt™ interface of the Thunderbolt™ display.
3. Two PCs are bridged via the Thunderbolt™ interface of other Thunderbolt™ expansion devices.
In terms of performance, Thunderbolt™ Share provides up to 20Gbps speeds for Thunderbolt™ 4 on Windows 11 (although there is potential for higher speeds, it is currently limited by the connection manager driver) and up to 40Gbps PC-to-PC connection speeds on Thunderbolt™ 5. However, actual performance may vary depending on system configuration.
Thunderbolt™ Share Security and Privacy Features
Thunderbolt™ Share provides a variety of security and privacy features, including:
1. Direct P2P connection: bypass vulnerable network and cloud infrastructure to reduce the attack surface.
2. Hardware-implemented VT-d access control: use VT-d technology for hardware-level device authorization to limit unauthorized access to system resources.
3. Windows user authentication and local access: leverage existing Windows security features such as password protection and local access requirements to enhance user control.
4. Firewall monitoring and network segmentation: integrate with Windows Firewall (or compatible solution) to monitor network traffic and limit access to authorized devices only.
Notes and Limitations
1. Thunderbolt™ Share is only available for new Thunderbolt™ products, so only new PCs, desktops, laptops, docking stations, or displays that come with Thunderbolt™ parts can obtain a license.
2. Thunderbolt™ Share does not support sharing of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) content.
3. When one PC goes to sleep, Thunderbolt™ Share can no longer communicate with the other PC, and the connection will stop. Once the other PC is reawakened, it can be manually reconnected by running an application or unplugging and reconnecting the Thunderbolt™ cable.
4. Thunderbolt™ Share can only connect two PCs at a time.
Users can obtain Thunderbolt™ Share software from the Thunderbolt™ official website or authorized computer/accessory manufacturers. If you encounter problems during installation, connection, or application crashes, you can post feedback in the Thunderbolt™ Share support forum in the product support forum of Intel Community.
