To connect a PS4 game console to a computer via a capture card for live streaming or recording, follow these steps:
  1. Prepare the necessary equipment:
  • PS4 game console
  • HDMI cables (at least two, one for connecting the PS4 to the capture card, and the other for connecting the capture card to a monitor or TV)
  • Capture card (external or built-in capture card with HDMI input and USB output)
  • Computer (with an available USB port, preferably a USB 3.0 port for better transmission speed and performance)
  2. Connect PS4 to the capture card:
  • Use an HDMI cable to connect the HDMI output port of the PS4 to the HDMI input port of the capture card.
  3. Connect the capture card to a monitor or TV (optional):
  • Use a second HDMI cable to connect the capture card's loop-through or HDMI out to the monitor or TV's HDMI input port so you can see the game screen on the monitor or TV at the same time.
  4. Connect the capture card to the computer:
  • Connect the capture card's USB port to the computer's USB port. Make sure to use a USB 3.0 port for best performance, although most capture cards are also backward compatible with USB 2.0.
  5. Install drivers and software:
  • Depending on the manufacturer's guide for the capture card, you may need to install drivers or supporting software. These are usually found inside the capture card's packaging or on the manufacturer's website.
  • Install and configure the live streaming or recording software of your choice, such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), XSplit, Streamlabs OBS, etc.
  6. Set up the live streaming or recording software:
  • Open the live streaming software, add a new source, and select the capture card as the video input device.
  • Adjust settings, including video resolution, frame rate, and bit rate, to suit your network conditions and the requirements of the target platform.
  7. Start streaming or recording:
  • Turn on the PS4 console and start the game.
  • Launch the streaming or recording software on your computer to start capturing and streaming the PS4 game screen.
  8. Check the signal:
  • Confirm that the software on your computer is correctly receiving the PS4's video signal. If you encounter problems, check that all connections are stable and that the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) settings allow copyrighted content to be transmitted through the capture card.
  9. Debug and optimize:
  • Adjust settings as needed to ensure the best streaming quality and performance.
Different brands and models of capture cards may have some differences, so it is best to refer to the specific capture card manual for operation.
