The difference between video recording box, video capture card and video encoder

There are many kinds of high-definition audio and video products, such as video recording boxes, video capture cards, video encoders and other products. These three products can process audio and video information. What are the differences between these products and what are the features of each function?

High-definition audio and video recording box

Video recording box: dedicated to recording the audio and video information output by the corresponding video interface, and with a USB interface, so the recorded audio and video content can be directly collected and saved to a USB flash drive. The video recording box does not require a computer when recording videos. Recording boxes with different audio and video input interfaces can be connected to record different products. For example, the HDMI recording box is suitable for recording the audio and video content output by products such as PS4 game consoles and HDMI high-definition set-top boxes. The saved video files can also be edited and processed through editing software.

High-definition audio and video capture card

Video capture card: Because the video information output by related high-definition cameras, HDMI set-top boxes and other devices cannot be directly transmitted to the computer, corresponding video capture devices are required, and video capture cards are a kind of device that can be used to collect and process the audio and video information output by related video products into audio and video information that can be recognized by computer laptops. In this way, the information output by cameras, PS4 and other products can be transmitted to the computer, and then the relevant network live broadcast can be carried out.

Currently, there are two main types of built-in video capture cards and external video capture cards. The difference is that the built-in video capture card is inserted into the computer motherboard for use, while the external video capture card uses the USB interface to connect to the computer laptop.

  High-definition audio and video encoder

Video encoder: High-definition cameras and other products are used in network conferences, security monitoring and other occasions. If the video content data volume is relatively large, the video information always needs to be encoded and compressed to realize the encoding of large-volume video content into data information that can be transmitted on the network. Then, with a video encoder, there is no need for a video capture card and you can directly broadcast on the network, and the effect is also very good.

Taking the SDI encoder as an example, the SDI video encoder has an SDI audio and video input interface, which can be connected to an SDI high-definition camera. It also has an Ethernet interface that can be directly connected to a network cable. When doing live video broadcast, you can first configure the encoder with the relevant information of the RTMP streaming server, and then you can start the live broadcast.
