Compared with built-in video capture cards, USB video capture cards are more convenient to use, simpler to operate, and can be used in laptops. During operation, some users may encounter such a situation: when we use USB video capture cards for audio and video data acquisition, when the data transfer is completed and we want to safely remove the USB video capture card, the system often displays system messages such as "The device is running, please unplug it later", which prevents users from normally deactivating the USB.
When the USB capture card is stuck and cannot be exited, you can try the following methods to solve this problem:
1. Check and close the occupied program
Reason: The USB capture card may be in use by other programs, resulting in an inability to exit safely.
Solution:
Check whether there are any programs using the USB capture card in the task manager.
Close all programs that may occupy the USB capture card, especially those related to video capture, audio input or device control.
2. Copy other files and try to stop
Experience method: Sometimes when you stop the USB device after copying files, there may still be a link to the USB device in the memory.
Operation steps: Try to copy other files to another location, and then try to stop the USB capture card. This method can sometimes clear the links in memory and allow the device to be deactivated smoothly.
3. Disable USB power saving function
Reason: The power saving function of the USB device may cause the device to fail to respond when trying to exit.
Solution (using Windows 10 as an example):
Open the Device Manager (right-click "This PC" or "My Computer", select "Manage", and then click "Device Manager").
Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section.
For each USB Root Hub in the list, right-click and select "Properties".
If there is a "Power Management" tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Click "OK" to save the settings.
4. Enable the "Optimize for fast removal" feature
Steps:
Right-click "This PC" or "My Computer" and select "Properties".
Click the "Hardware" tab, and then click "Device Manager".
In the Device Manager, expand the "Disk Drives" section and find the device corresponding to the USB capture card (it may be displayed as USB Flash Drive or other similar names).
Right-click the device and select Properties.
Switch to the Policy tab.
Select the Optimize for fast removal option and click OK.
5. Restart your computer
Method description: If none of the above methods solve the problem, try restarting your computer. This can clear possible temporary files or errors in memory, allowing the USB capture card to exit normally.
6. Check the hardware connection
Cause: The USB capture card may not exit normally due to physical connection problems (such as a loose or damaged USB port).
Solution:
Check whether the connection between the USB capture card and the computer is firm.
Try to connect the USB capture card to another USB port on the computer.
7. Update or reinstall the driver
Cause: An outdated or damaged driver may cause the USB capture card to not work properly.
Solution:
Visit the manufacturer's website of the USB capture card and download and install the latest driver.
If the driver is already installed but the problem persists, try uninstalling the current driver and then reinstalling it.
