What are the new features of USB4?

USB4 is an important update not only because it provides new features, but also because it helps resolve confusion over USB3.x naming and, for the most part, gives users a predictable and consistent experience. The USB4 protocol requires a USB-C to USB-C cable.
Data transfer rate up to 40Gbps:
USB4 devices need to support 20 Gbps (2.4 GB/second). If using the shorter 0.8m Gen 3 cable, you can optionally support 40 Gbps (4.8 GB/sec).
  Multiple data and display protocols:
USB4 supports USB 3.2, PCIe and DisplayPort 1.4a through protocol tunneling technology. DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 3 are also supported via Alt mode.
Backward compatibility with USB 3.2, USB 2 and Thunder 3:
USB4 maintains compatibility with previous versions of the USB specification and, due to its Thunder 3 foundation, also supports TB3 ALT mode.
  Video and data bandwidth optimization:
USB3.2 allocates a fixed bandwidth for data or video, or in DP Alt mode, provides 100% bandwidth for video. USB4 dynamically allocates bandwidth for video and data based on actual needs.
  100W charging:
All USB4 devices support USB power supply. When a device is connected to a USB4 port, USB PD negotiates a "contract" to provide power, safely delivering up to 100W (5A/20V) of power.
