How far can HDMI video be transmitted?

HDMI has been widely used in the video industry. Whether in the professional audio-visual field or in home applications, HDMI has gradually become the number one high-definition interface in the video. The advantages of the HDMI interface over other high-definition video interfaces are self-evident. So far, HDMI has launched the HDMI1.4 version standard, which has more obvious advantages over other versions. It not only has a faster transmission rate, but also supports ultra-high-definition image transmission at the level of 3840 x 21604Hz/25Hz/30Hz; 4096 x 2160 24Hz, and can transmit lossless audio signals. Its prospects are very broad.
At present, there are many kinds of HDMI cables and interfaces on the market. Different cables have an impact on the transmission distance of HDMI audio and video. In the current long-distance HDMI transmission, twisted pair transmission is mostly used, and the difficult-to-change technical problems of twisted pair cables will also be encountered. In particular, problems such as signal conduction speed, impedance, capacitance, and surface effect will affect the quality of long-distance signal transmission. The worst case is that when the HDMI standard was formulated, no fundamental solution was given to these problems. This also led to HDMI not performing as well as the legend when performing long-distance transmission.
HDMI fiber extenders
Of course, if you only need short-distance transmission, within 15 meters, you don’t need to consider HDMI video amplifiers and other equipment. You only need to choose the right HDMI cable deformation, and there is basically no loss for the transmission of high-definition HDMI audio and video. However, you must pay attention to several aspects when choosing HDMI cables.
  1. Version, of course, the higher the better, which is related to the HDMI device you use. It is best to choose version 1.4, which supports 3D and has a maximum resolution of 4096*2160
  2. Plug: This also affects the transmission of HDMI audio and video. The best choice is gold-plated 3u, followed by silver-plated, nickel-plated, etc.
  3. Length selection: Generally, 18M is the longest, which can receive without affecting the transmission of video signals.
  4. Wire diameter: Generally 30AWG/28AWG/24AWG are available on the market. The smaller the value before AWG, the thicker the wire, the greater the current it carries, and the better the transmission performance.
  5. Shielding: If the interference in the use environment is strong, you need to consider the shielding issue. Choose 3-layer shielding. If the distance is long, it is best to use a magnetic ring. Of course, there are also some with braided mesh.
  6. Try to choose branded HDMI cables. Of course, branded HDMI cables have better use effects and longer service life than copycat HDMI cables, and have after-sales guarantee.
For the current long-distance transmission of HDMI audio and video, Bodeyue has also launched HDMI twisted pair extenders and HDMI fiber extenders. The transmission distance can be from 30 meters to 500 meters. You can choose according to your own use environment and transmission distance. Of course, the HDMI fiber extender has better effects, stronger anti-interference, and better stability than the HDM network cable extender, but the price is also more expensive.
